Posted on : 18/03/08 02:47 pm Hooray! I deleted every bit that makes spam or looks like a splog, which does the job, but it's nicer to have a simple hack that wipes it out for all future skins. So ... when ya gonna go public with it? |

I've not looked at 2.4.2 yet, I've been to busy dying of flu. FG did say that the credits would be very easy to remove/block and that they would only be (remote) updated when you first installed but, as I said, I've not looked at the code yet. ¥ |

Posted on : 04/05/08 03:55 pm I haven't looked at the credits thing yet other than to notice that the hacks.php file above works well. I thought about putting a "nofollow" in it as a punishment but hey what's the point of that right? I've no objection to a credit but won't tolerate the spammy nature of pushing hosts (especially hosts who happen to suck), and the splogs are just disgusting. Anyway somewhere while researching something else I found what I can only define as spyware. I'll share a hack soon, but basically "return false" and it won't send personal information about my server to b2evolution EVER even though it wants to every 12 hours. |

Posted on : 11/05/08 02:31 am inc/dashboard/model/_dashboard.funcs.php and I don't have it open so I can't give you a line number until I open it. Okay there it is. Line 28 opens a function that is used only once - when you visit your dashboard page. It calls home to see if there is any important coolness it needs to tell you about. The problem, to me, is that it does a lot more than that. It *reports* to b2evolution quite a laundry list of information that it very easily can report. You were not asked if it could send this info. You were not told it will send this info. It simply does it. So after the opening { thingie I added "return false;". It never tells me I have an up-to-date blog, and yeah it can never tell me important stuff, but it doesn't report info about my server to it's dark master. I thought about hacking up fake answers (lines 73 to 101) just to fuck with the collected data, but I couldn't see a genuine point in that. Simply stopping spyware seemed good enough to me. I should have a file online tonight for people to conveniently grab. |

Posted on : 11/05/08 08:13 am I'd be soooooo tempted to change it so that it declared I was a worpress blog running php9, mysql 1.2 with 1Kb of memory and no user/group ¥ |

Posted on : 11/05/08 03:12 pm I thought about something like that. Like, tell it you have the officially stated minimum requirements for php and mysql and that you don't have anything fancy and that your bits are owned by 'world' or whatever wouldn't be cool. Just to skew the data to useless, but then figured there's no point in that. Spyware gets killed: end of story. Hey when is the blogrum hack/mod/plugin concoction gonna be out there in the wilds for mere mortals to get confused by? |

Posted on : 12/05/08 09:48 am I'm supposed to be coding quite a bit of the blogrum functionality into the core, but I haven't had the time/chance/inclination to play with the core for a fair while. I guess I should just tart up the bits it uses and release it .... it's a bit more work than your average "upload this and press go" though, so I'm dreading the support thread that's gonna go with it ¥ |
